InnoCarnival 2016 - Professor Henry Wong's talk: "Talent or mediocrity?"

2 Nov 2016

This seminar compared the failure of the Westernization Movement in the late Qing Dynasty and the success of the Meiji Restoration in Japan. The seminar continued to use Xinhai Revolution and the Chinese Liberation War as examples to delineate the importance of relying on talent to administer. Concerning science development in China, the American physicist Henry Rowland once commented on the reason why modern science did not flourish on Chinese soil. He was of the view that the Chinese people had paid too much attention on the application of science, and not on science itself.
