Prof Zuowei Xie received a BSc degree from Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University) in 1983 and his MSc from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), The Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1986. Prof. Xie earned his PhD in Chemistry in 1990, working in a joint PhD program offered by Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technische Universität Berlin. After working in SIOC as Research Associate and in University of Southern California as Postdoc Fellow, he joined the Chemistry Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995 as Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor (1998), Professor (2002), Chair Professor (2006) and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Chemistry (2013). He is currently serving as Interim Dean of Science (CUHK). Prof Xie received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious State Natural Science Prize (2008 and 1997), Chinese Chemical Society Yao-Zeng Huang Award in Organometallic Chemistry (2010) and The Croucher Award (2003).

Prof Xie’s major research interests are in the areas of organometallic and main group chemistry, specializing in carboranes, metallacarboranes, and boron chemistry. His innovative work has been highlighted many times in Chemical & Engineering News, Synfacts, Synform, JACS Spotlights et al. He has served on the editorial advisory board of many journals, such as Organometallics, Dalton Transactions, Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers, Science China Chemistry, and Chinese Journal of Chemistry and others. He also serves on International Advisory Board of international conference organizations including International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry, International Conference on Organometallics and Catalysis, and International Meeting on Boron Chemistry.
