Prof Lap-Chee Tsui awarded the 2018 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize in recognition of his identification of the cystic fibrosis gene.

Our Founding President, Prof Lap-Chee Tsui, was awarded the 2018 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize in recognition of his discovery of the cystic fibrosis gene, which provided an entry point to the understanding the basic defect of the complex disease.

Prof Tsui made the pioneering breakthrough to the study of human genome when he and his research team identified the gene for Cystic Fribrosis gene in 1985, which is an important piece of work in defining the basic defect of the disease. His other contributions include a comprehensive mapping and characterization of human chromosome 7.

The Warren Alpert Foundation, in association with Harvard Medical School, honors trailblazing scientists whose work has improved the understanding, prevention, treatment or cure of human disease.
