ASHK's response to the 2021 Policy Address of the Chief Executive

The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences responds to the Chief Executive's 2021 Policy Address

The "Chief Executive's 2021 Policy Address" laid out the Government’s upcoming support in various ways provided for the development of basic scientific research and science and technology innovation in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences welcomes these initiatives.

Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Founding President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, pointed out that the National 14th Five-Year Plan clearly supports the development of Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology center, and the SAR government has all along spared no effort in promoting it.  In the just released "Chief Executive's 2021 Policy Address", the overall local land planning and talent nurturing plans have taken into account the needs of Hong Kong's science and innovation, and integrated them into the development strategy of the Greater Bay Area.  This is undoubtedly a great encouragement to the development of scientific research in universities and the industry.  Hong Kong's science and technology development prospects are bright and attractive.  It is hoped that more young people aspiring to develop a career in scientific innovation can well learn basic science and mathematics to prepare for a bright future.

Professor Vic Law, the founding President of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences, expressed his delight at the government's plan to support science and technology innovation.  He believes that the building of the San Tin Technopole, expanding the science park and providing land for scientific research to universities as proposed in the policy address will provide multiple new platforms for the development of innovative technology, give scientific researchers and the industry more room for development, and help Hong Kong become an international innovation and technology center.
