“Shedding Light on the Pandemic - Advancements in COVID-19 Vaccines” Online Public Talk

The Hong Kong Science Museum, The Joseph Needham Foundation for Science and Civilisation and The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences jointly organised an online public lecture, “Shedding Light on the Pandemic - Advancements in COVID-19 Vaccines”, which was delivered by Prof Wallace LAU Chak-sing, Head of Department (Medicine), Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, on 27 Feb 2021.

The speaker introduced the rationale of the various technological platforms the new vaccines are based on, and explained the different stages of vaccine development, the roll out of the local vaccination programme and how would it improve community health conditions in Hong Kong should these vaccines be successful.

Prof Wallace Lau Chak-sing is Daniel CK Yu Professor in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong.  He now serves as Head and Chief of Service of the Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital, and immediate past President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Between 2006 and 2008, Prof Lau was President of Asia Pacific League of Associations of Rheumatology. Currently, he is a member of the Programme Committee of the European League Against Rheumatism Annual Scientific Meeting.  Locally, Prof Lau founded the Hong Kong Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation in 2001.
